Emergency crews first responded to the Black Forest Fire after a call June 11. The wildland fire quickly grew from a dozen acres to more than 8,500. It has forced thousands of evacuations. Get district information from the Black Forest Fire Resources page.
District 49 offers a school-based health center at Falcon Elementary School. Peak Vista Community Health Centers provides basic healthcare to district students and their siblings, 21 years old and younger, Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is not currently ordered a mandatory evacuation due to the Black Forest Fire. Children and adults who may be dealing with respiratory issues related to the fire can make an appointment. Call 719.344.6247.
Musical artists from around the United States are joining voices in Colorado Springs to take a stand against bullying. Falcon School District 49 will host Stand Up. Speak Out., a concert to end bullying, Aug. 17 at Security Service Field.
"We decided to join this cause because, being high school students, we see that bullying happens on an every day basis and it's definitely something that needs to come to an end," said Bree Bremser, a 12th grader at Sand Creek High School. Bremser, a singer and song writer, will open up for the Stand Up. Speak Out. anti-bullying concert Aug. 17 in District 49.
District 49 would like to hear from high school seniors and alumni. Are you preparing for graduation in 2013?
